General Routines

READING

Children need to bring in their book bags and reading books every day. All children will be given a new book once a week.  If staff believe that a book hasn’t been read at home the children may not receive a new one.

So it is really important that you record when you read with your child by signing in the yellow book.  There will be incentives for children to read at home. You can also write questions or comments in here about reading and how you can help at home.

Children who read regularly at home make better progress than those who don’t. You can make a real difference to your child’s attainment by reading with them as often as possible.

SWIMMING

Swimming is on Thursday afternoons. Children will need a costume/trunks, a towel and a swimming hat in a swimming bag. Swim hats can be bought from the school office. The children can wear goggles if they wish.

Swimming is part of the children’s weekly PE time and it is important that they participate. If your child is well enough to attend school they are well enough to swim.

We encourage all of our children to be as independent as possible, so please help your child to practise getting dressed and undressed by themselves.

PE

PE is on Tuesdays. Children need to bring in their PE kits and keep them in school for the half term in case the day changes or we do an extra session.  PE kits must be kept in PE bag, not a book bag.  Bags can be purchased in the office.

HOMEWORK

Homework comes home on a Thursday (in a maths and literacy book). The homework is explained on a sheet and children need to complete it in the books.  Children choose one maths and one literacy homework each week.  Homework needs to be returned on a Tuesday.

We use homework to give your child a chance to practise things they are learning in class and so it is an important part of their learning. They will need some support to complete tasks at home.

CLOTHING

We are hoping to do visits in our local community and the Secret Garden. We will be walking to the swimming pool every week. Please make sure that your child comes to school in suitable outdoor clothing depending on the weather.

We hope to go on many trips during Year 1.  We need parent volunteers so that we have enough adults to go on these trips.  All school volunteers will be required to have a DBS check.  If you do not have one already please speak to the office as we would love for you to join us!

Please feel free to contact us at any time through the office to arrange a meeting if there are questions or situations you would like to discuss. School gate opens at 8:40am and children need to be in their classroom ready for learning at 8:50am. Please say goodbye at the door so your child can independently put away their belongings and begin their learning.

Thank you for reading this information and we hope you find it useful.
